Shiatsu

Woman having Shiatsu massageShiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork. The word shiatsu means “finger pressure.”

Shiatsu works like acupuncture, it is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, throughout the body. In  shiatsu, fingers, palms, knees, elbows, feet are used to work on the  energetic pathways, called meridians to improve the flow of Qi. The treatment is similar to Thai massage and includes lots of stretching. It can be done on a mat on the floor or on a massage table combined with other massage styles. Shiatsu calms an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which improves circulation, relieves stiff muscles, and alleviates stress.
